You all know that it leveled the UN headquarters, the National Palace, and the Ofatma hospital in Petionville. You\u2019ve heard about how the quake struck at about 5pm, and then darkness settled over the city \u2013 except for sporadic fires along the coast. Perhaps you made it far enough in the article to read about the cries for help, echoing from under concrete fragments that used to be buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most likely, you don\u2019t have much background on day to day life in that country. I don\u2019t claim to be an expert, but I\u2019ve been there three times:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cdwan.org\/pics\/2006\/2006_Haiti\/\">2006<\/a>: Jen and I nervously got on a plane.<br><a href=\"http:\/\/cdwan.org\/pics\/2007\/2007_Haiti\/\">2007<\/a>: We took my dad, and friend Tara.<br><a href=\"http:\/\/cdwan.org\/pics\/2008\/2008_Haiti\/\">2008<\/a>: Jen was recovering from ankle surgery, so I went without friends or family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have no idea how to help. Getting on an airplane seems entirely pointless. I feel a sadness and helplessness that reminds me of watching the twin towers burn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is some data on my friends from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.familyhm.org\/whatweknow.html\">Family Health Ministries<\/a>.
