{"id":1764,"date":"2010-01-12T13:30:10","date_gmt":"2010-01-12T18:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dwan.org\/?p=1764"},"modified":"2020-04-12T20:27:15","modified_gmt":"2020-04-13T00:27:15","slug":"supplies-for-haiti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dwan.org\/index.php\/2010\/01\/12\/supplies-for-haiti\/","title":{"rendered":"Supplies for Haiti"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Once again, I am incredibly humbled by the lengths that people will go to in support of this crazy idea of going down to help the people of Haiti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m being intentionally a bit vague here \u2013 in case anyone is bending the rules on our behalf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a few phone calls, <a href=\"http:\/\/redmed.livejournal.com\/\">redmed<\/a> and I were led into the basement of her hospital. Deep in the bowels \u2013 where blue smocked cooks move steaming vats of soup \u2013 and pallets of gauze and surgical supplies share the halls with crash carts and so on. We met The Man In Charge in his basement corner office. He had strong hands with a firm grip \u2013 looked us in the eyes and said \u201cso you\u2019re going to Haiti? We\u2019ve got a room full of donated supplies. Come with me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He buzzed us into the back room, where pallets of boxes stood. He handed us a box cutter, and introduced us to one of his employees. \u201cTake what you need, anything in here. It\u2019s mixed, but all good. It\u2019s being shipped once we can arrange it \u2013 but you need it now. God bless you for what you\u2019re doing. This fellow will get it straightened up after you\u2019re done.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The thing that got me was that <strong>he<\/strong> was the one doing us a favor \u2013 and <strong>he<\/strong> was also the one thanking us.
